Noninvasive Alternatives for the Assessment of Liver Fibrosis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Chronic liver diseases (CLD) are common and may lead to fibrosis, cirrhosis, and hepatic malignancy. Detection and staging of liver fibrosis is crucial for management of patients with CLD. At present, liver biopsy is the standard method for staging fibrosis, but biopsies are poorly tolerated because they are invasive and associated with some discomfort and complications. In addition, limitations of biopsy include intraand inter-observer variation and sampling error. In recent years, a great interest and many studies have been dedicated to the development of noninvasive tests to substitute liver biopsy for fibrosis assessment and follow-up. Unfortunately, all of them have limitations and pitfalls. To discuss their advantages and deficiencies will be helpful in scientific research and clinical practice.

Assessment of transient elastography (FibroScan) for diagnosis of fibrosis in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Background: Transient elastography (TE) is a new modality for the diagnosis of liver fibrosis caused by various etiologies. This study was conducted to determine the accuracy of TE in detecting the different stages of liver fibrosis in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) patients. Methods: MEDLINE/PubMed, Embase, Ovid, Cochrane Library, American College of Physicians (ACP) Journal Club...
متن کاملAssessment of diagnostic value of DWI technique in the evaluation of liver fibrosis
Introduction: The liver fibrosis is caused by extracellular accumulation of cluster, glycos amino glycans and proteoglycans, which this extracellular accumulation may limit the penetration and molecular movement of water in the tissue, so the Diffusion weighted imaging(DWI) technique is due to the sensitivity to the movement and release of water molecules Can show this restrict...
متن کاملAssessment of hepatic fibrosis by transient elastography in rheumatoid arthritis patients receiving methotrexate
Background and Aim: Methotrexate (MTX) is commonly used in the treatment of diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA) but, its hepatotoxicity potential, always has been a major concern. The aim of this study is to determine the rate of liver fibrosis by transient elastography (TE) method and its relationship with cumulative dose of MTX and duration of treatment, in rheumatoid arthritis patient...
متن کاملTransient Elastography for Assessment of Liver Fibrosis and Steatosis: An Evidence-Based Analysis.
BACKGROUND Liver fibrosis is a sign of advanced liver disease and is often an indication for treatment. The current standard for diagnosing liver fibrosis and steatosis is biopsy, but noninvasive alternatives are available; one of the most common is transient elastography (FibroScan). OBJECTIVES The objective of this analysis was to assess the diagnostic accuracy and clinical utility of trans...
متن کاملNoninvasive Assessment of Fibrosis in Patients with Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is prevalent in 20-25% of the general population and is associated with metabolic risk factors such as obesity, diabetes mellitus, and dyslipidemia. Histologically, NAFLD ranges from simple steatosis to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), fibrosis, and cirrhosis. As NASH develops in only 10-15% of patients with NAFLD, it is not practical to biopsy all p...
